The 2004/5 Appeal

In 2004/5 we supporting theToybox Charity and its work

amongst street children in Latin America.

Home alone - The Toybox Charity works with the poorest communities, bringing hope to families with children at high risk of leaving home for the streets.  Infants are left at home all day to fend for themselves, parents are forced to work from dawn to dusk to earn not enough money to survive on.  The Toybox Charity is bringing a rainbow of hope through training parents, street school for the children workshops and practical care.

Homeless alone - The pavement for a pillow, a box for a bed, life in the streets of Latin America is no game for the 40 million or so children who suffer this appalling plight.  Orphaned by civil war, victims of natural disasters, driven from home by the abuse, neglect and violence of parents too poor to care, street children engage in a daily battle for survival.  Theft, shoe shining, scavenging, the sex trade and other exploitative child labour are their daily lot.

The Toybox Charity offers:

Street Teams - First aid, friendship and fun on the streets

Day Centre - A safe place for children to come as they leave behind their life on the streets

Hostel - A place to stay as the children prepare to take up a place in a home

Homes - Loving, small, family-style homes.  House parents are supported by specialist workers sas the children learn to be children again, grow up as a family and go to school

High risk teams - Working with local authorities and other agencies to bring lasting change to the poorest communities.  Providing street schools and parents' workshops to help stem the flow of children onto the street.

Our involvement - In the first instance is to raise funds during 2004 and early 2005 for the work of the Toybox Charity.  Our target is £1000.  Simple but not the whole story!

Our annual appeal adds valuable dimensions to the life of the Fellowship.  It provides an opportunity for the Fellowship in all its forms to unite in support of a common objective with children and adults of all backgrounds able to make a contribution.  It gives focus to support for special services and social events.

As a village community it brings a wider view of the world into our small corner.  We are presented with the love of God being worked out by others with differing callings to ourselves.
