WHAT'S ON IN SEPTEMBER

CHURCH SERVICES IN SEPTEMBER (unless stated differently services start at 10.30 am in the Hilltop Centre.)  The focus of our services in September will be the "Come Aboard" Canal Mission in Polesworth over the weekend of 22nd and 23rd, this is being arranged by the Polesworth and Dordon Churches together with members of the Boaters Christian Fellowship.

Sunday 2nd             We meet as usual for our morning service when today we take time to share the Communion celebration together.

Sunday 9th              Karl Hughes leads our morning service today.

Our evening service at St John's in Birchmoor will be led by David, he will be taking the theme 'Count your blessings' (wasn't that a chorus we sang as children?).  The service starts at 6.30 pm and offers a more traditional style of worship which is appreciated by the growing number who come along.  (As usual - we meet at 2 pm on Saturday to prepare St John's for the Sunday service.)

Sunday 16th           Following the Brigades starting back earlier in the week, today we meet for the first of our monthly Parade Services to which we invite all the Brigade members and their families.  We will focus on the coming 'Come Aboard' Mission with the arrival of Nick Cross.  David has known Nick for many years, he is enthusiastic, noisy and generally over the top (but only some of the time).  Nick will be telling all about the Mission, what's planned, and generally encouraging everyone to come along next weekend and have a great time.

Sunday 23rd           Our service today fits into the arrangements for the 'Come Aboard' Mission (more below).  We meet at the usual time when members of the Boaters Christian Fellowship will be taking part in the service.  They will be sharing experiences of living full time on the canals and outlining the impact it has on their faith when they are not in contact with their 'home' church.

Our Service especially for 16 to 25 year olds is at

7 pm  when Karl will be leading the worship and discussion.  Sometimes we need something that is shaped towards where we are and 'all age' activities just don't make it for us.  So we have this time especially for those of these ages so a more relevant expression for their faith is available.

Sunday 30th           Today we will be supporting 'Back to Church Sunday' with a blend of worship and prayers which we hope will be sensitive for those seeking to rediscover faith.

For God loved the world so much that he gave his only son,

so that everyone who believes in him may not die

but have everlasting life.

             Anchors 6 - 7.15 pm; Juniors 6.15 - 7.45 pm; Company & Seniors

            8 - 9.30 pm.

As we start back the Brigade are happy to welcome new members.  Girls can join from 4 years old and boys can join from 5 years old.

Last month three of the older teenagers Anthony, Michael and Nicola were away on residentials for the Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award.  The lads spent a week at Boys' Brigade HQ in Hemel Hempstead undertaking the first week of leadership training, this included being let loose in London for the day.  Nicola worked at a mixed camp for 11+ years near Maidstone in Kent.  They all enjoyed the experience and have now completed the Gold Award!  Congratulations!!!  Matthew was also away spending two weeks in the Lake District on a working holiday arranged jointly by Scripture Union and the National Trust.  He helped build footpaths and tried his hand at dry stone walling.  The group had quite an international flavour with individuals from France, Germany Luxemburg and South Africa.  Did he enjoy himself - he certainly did and has been invited back next year.

Cycle Training for children and adults.  Is there any interest in training sessions probably on Saturdays?  We have details of a local nationally qualified instructor of cycling standards who offers off road training from the basic looking after the cycle (lights, carrying things) and control of the cycle (use of brakes, signalling, use of gears) to quiet road training (positioning on the road, junctions, etc).  If there is sufficient interest we would look to organise sessions later in the year.  Cost would depend upon numbers and whether we could obtain grant funding.  Contact David or Christine Harris

One for the Boys' Brigade Officers and helpers.  The Battalion AGM is being held on Thursday 27th September at Walsall Wood Methodist Church 7.30 pm, details from David.

This months extra events include:

Reunited on Saturday 15th September at St Martin's Church in the Birmingham Bull Ring.  For 13+ years, contact David for details and transport arrangements - free.

X:site Birmingham on Saturday 29th September in the city centre.  For

7 to 12 year olds, contact Christine Harris (893788) for details and transport arrangements - cost £1.50.

Canal Narrowboat Weekend (not to be confused with the 'Come Aboard' Mission).  This is for Boys' Brigade Seniors over the weekend of 28th - 30th September.  The narrowboat is based on the Stratford upon Avon canal and the weekend starts from Wootton Wawen.  Cost £40.
