FELLOWSHIP NEWS
A big thank you to everyone who helped with the events for the 'Come Aboard' Canal Mission last month. This proved to be a really successful weekend; from the Friday evening welcome BBQ to the Saturday afternoon events and canal trips, to the Abbey buffet and grand send off of the boats on Sunday afternoon. And it's not over yet! The Mission comes to a conclusion on Saturday 6th with a similar afternoon of activities to those held in Polesworth. The final event is being held at Millfield School in Fazeley. The afternoon starts at 2 pm and includes a falconry display, lazer clay pigeon shooting, music from the
Amington Band, trips on the canal and much more.
Last month I was explaining about the Golden Box that sits on the table at the front of our Services and how the funds raise support Ashit, a ten year old boy in Bangladesh. Since writing about this we have received some disturbing news from World Vision through whom we send our support for Ashit. World Vision write that the area where Ashit lives has been affected by severe flooding which has wiped out crops and driven people from their homes. Ashit's family have been directly affected as flood water has damaged their house and yard. World Vision are working in the area to help relieve the problems caused. We will be looking to do additional fund raising later in the year for Ashit's
community.
On a happier note we received a letter from The Smile Train charity thanking us for the gift of £851.50 that we recently sent. In the letter there is news of a recent visit to Kabal in Afghanistan where the writer talks about how children in this war torn country are travelling many miles to the hospital in Kabal, which is supported by Smile Train, for the treatment of cleft lips and palates. The writer wants you to know just how much your support is appreciated in a country where no other help is available for the children who come for surgery. As a result of funding provided by Smile Train to the hospital in Kabal some 300+ Afghan children are smiling today.
Our support for the work of Smile Train continues and recently Karl Hughes entering the Great North Run sponsored for the charity - it's not too late to add your sponsorship should you wish to.
On Monday 15th the Fellowship will be holding its annual general meeting which is open to all Enrolled and Associate members . The meetings starts at 8.15 pm and should last about 45 minutes. All activity leaders need to come prepared to give a short verbal report which includes their view on the direction of their activity over the next twelve months.
Prior to the AGM there will be a short Fellowship business meeting starting at 7. 30 pm for Enrolled Members. Items for the agenda to David by Thursday 11th October.
Associate membership of the Fellowship is open to anyone connected with the Fellowship. It places no responsibilities on the individual but is a way of indicating support for the work the Fellowship undertakes, particularly the work amongst the youth of our communities. Being able to show such support assists in gaining funding for our activities. If you would like more information on becoming an Associate Member contact David. You can also read about Associate Membership on our web site www.polesworthcf.ik.com
The next Hilltop Management Committee Meeting is on Wednesday 17th at 7. 30 pm. This evening will include both the AGM and an ordinary meeting. Would all activities please ensure they are represented. Any issues to Christine Harris beforehand.
TRICK OR TREAT
With this Diary you will find a couple of door notices for use by householders to indicate that they do not want to participate in the Trick or Treat activities of Hallowe'en.
The leaflets are a response to concerns expressed by many that at best they find Trick or Treat a bit of a nuisance and an unwelcome intrusion to, at worst, something that creates fear and uncertainty.
You may feel that you have no use for the leaflets but may know of a neighbour or family member who would welcome them, in which case please pass them on. If you should want additional leaflets then we still have a few available.
AND FINALLY
I thought I would save this to the last. At the recent Boys' Brigade AGM in September I was asked if I would take on the role of Battalion Chaplain, a role that is more than just taking devotions at the start of meetings as it includes a spiritual oversight of the Battalion. Having prior knowledge of the proposal I considered the suggestion at length and felt it to be something I should accept. The appointment was confirmed by the meeting. I look forward to being able to serve the Battalion in this new role.
I do hope to see you during the month at one of the Services or activities. Consider bringing the family to the Harvest lunch on Sunday 21st or if you are an Associate Member then come and join us at the AGM to hear our plans for the coming year.
