WHAT'S ON IN OCTOBER

CHURCH SERVICES IN OCTOBER (unless stated differently Church Services start at 10.30am at the Hilltop Centre).  The focus of our Services this month will be Harvest with celebrations at both the Hilltop Centre and St John's in Birchmoor.

Sunday 7th            Our morning Service today includes the opportunity to receive Holy Communion

Sunday 14th           Nigel Hunt, who has recently returned from a number of months touring England by narrow boat, leads our Service this morning.

                                    At our evening Service at St John's Church in Birchmoor we celebrate God's gift of the Harvest.  St John's will be open at 2 pm on Saturday for the receipt of gifts (non perishables), or gifts can be brought to the Service on Sunday evening.  The service starts at 6.30 pm.  There will be the usual arrangement for nominating individuals to receive a gift of Harvest produce.

Sunday 21st             We celebrate the Harvest at the Hilltop Centre as the Brigades gather for their monthly Church Parade.  Gifts of produce can be laid on the Harvest display before the Service or they can be presented during the singing of the first hymn.  Again, there will be the opportunity to nominate someone who would appreciate a gift of produce.  The gifts will be taken out in the afternoon at 4 pm, the help of children with this would be appreciated.  Following the Service the Band Staff will be serving lunch at the Centre.  Please book your places for lunch in advance with any of the Band Staff, funds raised will be used to help meet future Band expenses.

                                    This months Service for 16 to 25's is at 7 pm this evening at the Hilltop Centre.

Sunday 28th           We meet as usual at 10. 30 am but do please remember that the clocks go back on Saturday evening.  We will welcome anyone who turns up at 9. 30 am with a hot drink and a smile!

Lord of the Harvest, give to me

Space for stillness; Room for repentance;

Place for prayer; Home for happiness;

Ways to walk in; and Paths with purpose.

Amen.

THE BRIGADES

The Brigades returned last month after the summer break and the youngsters have quickly settled in to the Company evenings.  A couple of new faces at Girls Brigade have been welcomed.

The older lads enjoyed their narrow boat experience over the last weekend of September quickly learning the lesson that the opportunities to turn the boat around for the return journey are few and FAR between on the canals.

The response to the idea of Cycle Training mentioned last month has been reasonably well received, we will now follow this up with the proposed trainer.

Once again, X:site proved popular with the girls who enjoyed their evening in Birmingham (next date is Saturday 17 November.)

Looking forward to events in October.  On Sunday 7th the Boys' Brigade Mid Staffs and Sandwell Battalion (of which our Company is part) will be holding its Annual Parade and Church Service in Tamworth.  Boys are invited to attend and families are welcome to support.  The parade starts from the Castle Grounds at 2. 25 pm, going to St Editha's for the 3 pm Service.  More details from the Officers - everyone welcome.

There will be a short meeting on Saturday 13th at Polesworth Abbey to review the arrangements for this years Remembrance Service and Parade, interested parties to be at the Abbey for 11 am.

The annual BB Battalion Officers Dedication Service is on Thursday 18th at Chasetown Methodist Church, see David for more details and transport arrangements.

Don't forget - no Brigade meetings during half term week 22nd to 26th October.

Interested in seeing Disney's High School Musical on Ice?  Then contact Mrs Harris (893788) as soon as you can as she is arranging a party to go to a performance at the NEC in early January.
