POLESWORTH PIONEERS

Thanks to everyone who supported the Harvest meal prepared by the Band Staff following the Harvest Service at the Hilltop Centre last month, and thanks also to the Band Staff who worked so hard to prepare the meal.  Funds raised by the meal have been donated to the Band.

Once again the Band will be providing the music for the Remembrance Parade in Polesworth together with the Last Post and Reveille at the Memorial.  This is something the Band has had the privilege to do for many years and welcomes the opportunity to serve the community on this special day.  For our part we recognise the hours of practice the Band members put in to develop their musical skills and thank them for their performance.

On Friday 23rd November the Band will be playing in Tamworth for the switching on of the Christmas Lights.  The performance includes parading to the big switch on and entertaining the crowds afterwards.

On Saturday 24th the Band will be holding its annual fund raising event (venue to be announced) at which you are all invited to come and support.  Doors open at 7 pm - look out for Father Christmas!

As the Band has reached the end of another successful season it's time for a small celebration - and why not!  Band members, parents and staff are enjoying themselves with a meal at the Cuckoo's Rest on Friday 2nd November.

FELLOWSHIP NEWS & EVENTS

Congratulations to Karl Hughes who entered the Great North Run sponsored for this years Fellowship charity The Smile Train.  Karl successfully completed the half marathon and raised a magnificent £910 for the charity.  Big thank you to all who sponsored him.  Emma Hughes is also to be congratulated for completing the run raising sponsorship for Traidcraft.

Thanks also to everyone who supported last months Harvest Festival services at St John's Church and the Hilltop Centre.  The donated produce and food stuffs enabled us to make up twenty six parcels which were taken out into the community.

A cold church does nothing for the enjoyment of and participation in a Sunday service, and last winter at St John's we were starting to feel the chill!  All's sorted now, thanks to the efforts of Father Philip and the committee that looks after St John's, for new heaters have been installed and sunnier times are with us!

Does working with older people appeal to you?  The next FACE event, arranged by Kay Aldersley, is on Saturday 17th November at

St Peter's Church Mancetter and the topic is just that.  Speakers will cover: Setting up and running a club for the over 50's; Working with the elderly - a volunteers perspective; and The Pastoral Care Project which works with the frail and elderly and those with dementia related illness.  The event starts at 9.45 am, is free, and finishes at 12.30 pm.  David will be going, ask him all about it.

For Enrolled Members of the Fellowship there will be a business meeting on Monday 19th November starting at 7. 30 pm.

Fancy a relaxing night out?  Then get your place booked on the next Supper and Skittles evening at the Rose Inn in Baxterley.  It's on Wednesday 12 December, cost is £7.50, and places are limited to just forty.  Book with Andy Davidson or David.

NOAH'S ARK SUNDAY SCHOOL

Last month we were pleased to welcome Neil and Iris Painter as leaders in Noah's Ark to look after the 7 to 12 year old youngsters.  This additional help has enabled the leaders to better address the needs of the younger children as well as provide more appropriate activities for the 7 to 12's.  Noah's Ark meets every Sunday for children up to

12 years old.

AND FINALLY

On a rather sad note we are saying 'good bye' to Andy Burt.  Andy has been with the Fellowship since its inception in 1990.  He was our first Treasurer, led Boys' Brigade Junior Section for many years, and has provided the musical accompaniment at so many of our services over the years.  It's time for him to move on, and we will miss his contribution to the life of the Fellowship.

Not sure of when something is happening, want to know more about the Fellowship and its activities, or just stuck for something to do - then have a look at the Fellowship's Web Site at www.polesworthcf.ik.com and leave a message on our guest book.  (The messages are a real encouragement to our web master who thinks no one ever looks at the site!)
