THE FROG TEAM
Last months visit to 'X:site Birmingham' proved to be a great night out for the five youngsters who went. The next event is on Saturday
14 July, more details nearer the date. ('X:site Birmingham' is for 7 to 11 year olds and is run by Scripture Union.)
THE POLESWORTH PIONEERS BAND
The Brigade National Band Championships Saturday June 2nd
It's the big one! The competition that the Band has been working towards for the last six months. Held at the Northwood Stadium, Hanley, Stoke on Trent the competition brings together Brigade bands from across the UK to compete in the various classes of the competition. The Pioneers are entered in the Contest Class and will be playing against bands from Maidstone, South Shields, Burntwood and Windy Nook.
The competition lasts all day with plenty to see and hear. In all some 21 bands are taking part. The main competition is held under cover in a very large sports arena, whilst in the afternoon on the athletics field a second style of music and display is in competition. Food is available however picnics tend to be the order of the day.
It's a full and interesting day out, directions to the Stadium are available from the Band Staff, come and support the Band!!
Wood End and Dordon Carnivals Saturday 30th June
The Band will be supporting two local carnivals on the 30th. The Band will be leading the procession for Wood End Carnival (this starts at Edge Hill at 12 noon) and then moving on to Birch Coppice Social Club to perform on the events field for Dordon Carnival.
(Can I put in a word for Dordon Carnival - It's many years since the last carnival in Dordon when it used to be an annual feature of village life. In bringing back the Carnival it is hoped it will once again add to community life of the village. So if you are free on the 30th (whether you live in Dordon or not) you will be most welcome to come and enjoy the events and displays that are planned.)
FELLOWSHIP NEWS
Thanks to all who supported the Spring Fayre at Birch Coppice Social Club - how lucky we were with the weather!!
The Share your Faith Workshop last month was well attended and proved to be really interesting. Rev. Ian Field, who led the day, pitched his presentation just at the right level, which was very important as it was the first time we had tried a workshop like this with an invited speaker. It gives us the confidence to try another workshop in the future. Anyway, the workshop taught us to use the five finger guide to talking about faith, try challenging those who attended to see how much they have remembered!!!
Following on from previous productions, Ian Reed has now finished the 2006 Video of Fellowship events. The video lasts around 30 minutes and copies are £6 available from Ian (893012). There will be a short clip from the video shown at the Parade Service in June.
Do you remember David's attempt at Speed Dating that was cancelled due to snow (it seems a lifetime away but we did have heavy snow briefly in February), well the event has been rearranged for Wednesday 13th June. Just so we are clear about David's intentions, the event is being arranged by the Volunteer Centre in Atherstone to bring together individuals interested in volunteering with activities and organisations looking for help. David is hoping to find individuals with interesting hobbies who can come and take a subject at Brigade.
The next meeting of the Faith Communities Regeneration Project (led by Kay Aldersley) is on Saturday 23 June at Ansley Church Hall. The speaker on this occasion is Vicky Odams who will be leading a workshop and discussion on what makes good youth work (and a good youth worker). This should be of interest to all working in our youth activities, but whilst that may be very interesting it may not be enough to convince you to come, so let me tell you what Kay has found as a supporting activity. Joining us on this occasion will be a troop of Chinese Lion Dancers! There will be an opportunity to see the dancers perform and to discuss with them about their art. Now surely this has to make it worth coming! The meeting is from 9.45 am to
12.15 pm - more details from David.
AND FINALLY
Once again, lots going on - I hope to see you at one or more of the services or events we have planned.
David
Come, let's shout praises to God. Let's march into his presence singing praises, lifting the rafters with our hymns!
And why? Because God is the best!
