WHAT'S ON IN JUNE

CHURCH SERVICES IN JUNE

Sunday 3rd         Once again we play away!  The continuing work on the School site to install a new electricity supply means that this mornings service will again be held at St John's Church in New Street, Birchmoor.  At todays service we will be welcoming Karl Hughes into Enrolled Membership of the Fellowship and, as is our custom on the first Sunday in the month, the service will include Holy Communion.

Sunday 10th       Today we should be back at the Hilltop Centre on Dordon Road.  Our service will be led by Karl Hughes and the speaker is Joe Brettle.

Sunday 10th       Our monthly evening service at St John's in Birchmoor will take the form of a 'Songs of Praise', so come prepared to enjoy singing hymns and songs chosen by the congregation.  If you would like to choose a hymn or song for inclusion in the service please let David (893788) or Elaine Collis (893752) have the details before the service, this will ensure words and music are available.  (Cleaning at St John's on Saturday at  2 pm as usual.)

Sunday 17th       It's our parade service for members of the Brigades.  As it is 'Fathers Day' we will be celebrating the role of fathers, remembering our own father and thinking about the Fatherhood of God.  We especially invite Dads of the Brigade members to come with their children to this service.

Sunday 24th       We meet as usual at 10.30 am.

Sunday 24th       Tonight we are holding the first of what we hope will be a regular monthly service especially for 16 to 24 year olds.  Each generation adapts what has gone before to help express its worship and to explore its relationship with God.  We hope this service will be the space where young adults can take what they have experienced and mould it into an expression which they find more appropriate for them.  The service will be led by Karl Hughes and starts at 7 pm.

BRIGADES

The Brigades return after the holiday on Tuesday 5th and Wednesday 6th June, meeting as usual at the Hilltop Centre.

Brigade Sponsored Walk Saturday 9th June         The Explorer and Junior girls, as part of their badgework, have been learning about The Smile Train (the charity the Fellowship is supporting in 2007).  Smile Train works to provide funds for surgery to repair children's cleft lips and palates in countries where medical help is not readily available or is too expensive for parents to afford.  On Saturday 9th June the Officers have arranged a sponsored walk in Kingsbury Water Park where the girls can raise funds to help the charities work.  Firstly, the girls are seeking your sponsorship for the walk but they have also invited everyone to have a sponsor form and come and join in.  Everyone is invited to meet at the Park at 12 noon, to bring a picnic lunch and some money for an ice cream!  To get your sponsor form and more details of the arrangements contact Carol Bruton (897008).

Brigade Awards Evening Friday 15th June            Tonight the youngsters in the Brigades receive the badges, awards and prizes they have gained over the past nine months.  It's a really special evening for the youngsters and not to be missed.  Parents, family and friends are invited to come and share in the youngsters evening and in return they will be providing entertainment and demonstrating some of the things they have done at Brigade.  The Awards Evening is held in the High School hall and starts at 7 pm, youngsters need to arrive by 6.30 pm.  There will be a letter for parents about the rehearsal on Tuesday 12th June and other details when the Brigades start back on Tuesday 5th and Wednesday 6th June.

BB Battalion Sports Day Saturday 23 June              This years event is being held at Tamworth Athletics Stadium off Marlborough Way starting at 1 pm.  The Section Officers will be arranging with parents and lads what races the lads will be competing in.

Boys' Brigade news                                                   Anchor Boys and Juniors thoroughly enjoyed the last evening before the holiday; they played games in the park and then walked back from Browns Lane eating cones of chips.  They left Brigade on a high having asked if they could do this every week!   Company and Senior Sections celebrated the end of the session earlier in May with a trip out to the Golf Range near Whittington Barracks and a somewhat more expense meal at McDonalds!

Polesworth Carnival Saturday 7 July                      With the more restrictive insurance requirements now being applied we have been unable to find a transport company prepared to supply a lorry big enough for the number of youngsters we have.  Last year we had a similar problem and entered a walking float which proved to be a viable alternative - the youngsters coped with the route (some were able to miss part of it), we avoided being hit by coins and the children enjoyed the contact with the crowds.  In the light of this we are planning to enter a walking float again this year.  Details of the theme and costume requirements will given out at Brigade.  We hope all of the youngsters will be taking part.
