POLESWORTH PIONEERS

The Pioneers had a really good reception when they played for the switching on of the Christmas lights in Tamworth, with the crowd singing along to the selection of carols and songs.  Did you see the picture of Sarah and some of the other Band members in the Herald's report of the event?

Support your local Band!  This is the message that's gone out to homes in Polesworth, Dordon and Birchmoor.  On Saturday 8th December the Band is holding a Christmas Fayre at Polesworth Memorial Hall commencing at 10.30 am.  Festive music from the Pioneers, games, gifts, novelties, Santa's Grotto (go easy on Father Christmas - he gets a year older each year!), refreshments, and much more!  Look forward to seeing you there!

It's a Christmas card picture: the snow gently falling, the glow from the festive home, hot refreshments bringing smiles to everyone's faces and carols and music from the uniformed band.  It will be like that in Birchmoor on 23rd December (although we haven't gone out of our way to order the gently falling snow!) when the Pioneers gather in the garden of the Old Post Office to play a selection of carols.  Everyone's welcome at around 7. 45 pm.

FELLOWSHIP NEWS AND EVENTS

Let me tell you about Ashit for whom we are looking to raise funds over the Christmas period.  Ashit is the ten year old Bangladeshi lad the Fellowship supports through World Vision.  Recently, we had news that one of the regular storms that are a feature of Bangladesh life flooded Ashit's home and yard.

We had no information of the extent of the damage but the seriousness is perhaps best understood when it's recognised that this is the first time in the four years since we started supporting Ashit that World Vision has found it necessary to write about difficulties in his individual circumstances.  Pictures of the floods in the UK this summer come to mind.

Over Christmas the £1 donations at the 'Out of Uniform' carol service, together with the collections at the St John's Carol Service and the Christmas Day Service will all be donated to the work of World Vision.  World Vision will use 75% of the funds to help those in need in Ashit's community with the balance going directly to the family.  I would ask you to consider giving generously to this appeal.

On Wednesday 12th December we are returning to the Rose Inn in Baxterley for another Supper & Skittles evening.  These occasions prove to be great fun with prizes awarded to the highest scorers and something special as a booby prize.  Tickets are £7.50, contact David, and the evening starts at 7 pm.

AND FINALLY

Warwickshire Fostering Services have asked us to circulate this request on their behalf:

Could you foster a child?  We need people of all ages and backgrounds to become foster carers.  Foster Carers are particularly needed for: Children over 10, Brothers and Sisters, Dual Heritage Children and Disabled Children.

Foster Carers in Warwickshire provide homes for about 400 children, sometimes for a few days, sometimes for years until the young person is ready to leave home and live independently. Warwickshire County Council believes that every child has a right to family life.  Fostering provides a positive alternative for a child whilst they cannot live with their family. Warwickshire needs adults of all ages, from all different backgrounds to become foster carers. We are looking for carers who are single or couples; with or without children, retired, unemployed or working so we can find the best match for every child. What matters most is that you have time, space, commitment, patience, a caring nature and skills to work with children and their parents.

Interested?  Call Sylvia Vickers on 01926 413313  www.warwickshire.gov.uk/fostering
