August 2007
BRIGADES
Whilst the Brigades are not meeting in August, and the leaders take a well earned rest, that's not to say nothing is happening. Four of the older teenagers are taking part in a range of activities. Michael and Anthony are spending a week at BB headquarters in Hemel Hempstead undertaking the first week of KG VI training, Nicola is working at a mixed camp for 11 year olds and older near Maidstone, and Matthew is on a two week working holiday run by Scripture Union in conjunction with the National Trust in the Lake District. These have the potential to be valuable experiences for them, please remember them in your prayers.
ADVANCE NOTICES
'Come Aboard Canal Mission' is two weeks of activities on local canals organised by the churches of Polesworth and Tamworth in conjunction with the Boaters Christian Fellowship. The activities start in Polesworth on the weekend of 22 / 23 September. It's expected that some fifteen boats with over thirty crew will be tied up in Polesworth over the weekend.
On Saturday children can meet Uncle Michael the clown in the Abbey Green Park in Polesworth where there will be lots of activities taking place. On the canal there will be boats that can be visited and some for trips out along the canal. Sunday will include special services and the blessing of the boats as they move off to Amington for the next stage of the Mission.
Living on the canals is becoming ever more popular as Nigel & Jane together with Emily and Stuart have shown, in fact its reckoned that some 40,000 now live permanently on the canals. The Boaters Christian Fellowship started some 12 years ago to support the boating community.
More details next month.
Shacklestone Festival
The Shacklestone Festival, held on the first weekend of September, is well worth a visit with its many attractions. Our support for the event is founded in the mountain of work undertaken by Bob Matthews in organising the event and for his equally enthusiastic support for our band the Polesworth Pioneers. So, go along and enjoy yourselves and give Bob your support.
Next Fellowship Meeting
The next business meeting of the Fellowship is on Monday 3rd September at 7. 30 pm. Please let David have any items for the agenda by the end of August.
