WHAT'S ON IN APRIL

CHURCH SERVICES IN APRIL

Sunday 1st  Palm Sunday  Today we recall Jesus' triumphant entry into Jerusalem.  Acclaimed by the crowds who would soon turn on him, Jesus prepares himself for the events that were soon to unfold.

Friday 6th  Good Friday  The momentous events of Easter Week come to a head with Jesus' arrest and crucifixion.  We meet at 7.30 pm to remember and to reflect upon the events that have changed our world forever.

Sunday 8th  Easter Sunday morning  The wait is over, Jesus is alive!  We celebrate the resurrection of Jesus!  Meet with us to claim the promise of new life and mark the occasion as we share the Communion meal.

Sunday 8th Easter Sunday evening   We continue the Easter celebrations at St John's Church in Birchmoor where we meet at

6.30 pm.  (Cleaning party as usual at 2 pm on Saturday)

Sunday 15th  Today our service is led by Lesley Aspley and the speaker is Joe Brettle.  (Due to the Easter holidays the Parade Service will be held next week.)

Sunday 22nd  Parade service for all members of the Brigades and their parents.

Sunday 29th   We meet as usual at 10.30 am.

THE BRIGADES

Brigades take a break over the Easter holidays, returning on Tuesday 17th and Wednesday 18th April.

Last month the girls thoroughly enjoyed their weekend at the Woodlands Adventure Centre in Aldridge, a weekend they shared with girls from the 1st Kingshurst Company in Birmingham.  Everyone was able to take part in all of the activities - canoeing, assault course, archery, climbing wall and zip wire (death side).  The girls enjoyed the bonfire on Saturday night, the food was great (thanks Carol!) and even early morning keep fit wasn't too bad!  All in all a great weekend, the girls want to know when they can go again!

With the Easter break it's a quiet month for the Brigades, but there are a couple of things planned.  For BB Officers there's a Battalion Meeting on Tuesday 17th April at Lichfield - see David for details.  Over the weekend of 21/22 April Dan, Matt, Shane and Anthony will be attending the Completion Course for the BB Queen's Award (something they have been working towards over the past year).  The lads will be attending the course being run by the Yorkshire and Humberside District of the Boys' Brigade.

POLESWORTH PIONEERS BAND

The new recruits are doing really well and the established members are working hard to help them with their instruments and drill.  As the Band moves closer to the performing season the first challenge they are working for is the BB West Midlands Band Competition on 28th April at the Birmingham Sports Centre on Balsall Heath Road - time is short and the restricted practice arrangements have not helped, will they be ready in time?  The competition is quickly followed by performing at the village of Newborough for its well dressing celebrations - that's on Bank Holiday Monday 7th May.

In March, the Band supported the service held at the old Birch Coppice pit head to mark the life of the pit on the twentieth anniversary of its closure.  The Band's contribution was much appreciated and commented upon.  The band played a selection of music whilst the fifty or so ex miners and relatives gathered, they accompanied the singing of 'Abide with me' and led the time of remembrance with 'Last Post' and 'Reveille'.
